Root Canal Treatment
Is there any option to save the tooth after getting pain?
Yes….. We save the teeth through the golden option…. I.e., root canal treatment and majority of the patients undergoes root canal treatment at our mozhi dental clinic.
What is root canal treatment?
It is a procedure done to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or become infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed with a bio-compatible material. This will be followed by crown placement to strengthen the tooth. At our mozhi dental the root canal treatment is very well explained to the patients and we are practicing a painfree way to infilterate local anaesthesia ,the infections will be completely cleared and all roots are sealed completely without causing any further damage to the tooth ,in our clinic we provide digitalized x-rays before the procedure which shows the depth of the decay or infection and we also provide x-rays after the procedure which shows the quality of the root canal treatment done.
Root canal treatment
A tooth has three layers enamel, dentin and pulp. When the cavity is so deep that it has reached the pulp, root canal treatment has to be done. In this all the infection from within the tooth is removed, all the canals in the root are cleaned and medicament is placed. The tooth is sealed so that no infection seeps in after root canal treatment. After performing root canal treatment, the tooth becomes weak and brittle. That’s why post root canal treatment crown is very important to protect the tooth. At our mozhi dental clinic we practise three sitting root canal treatment.
First sitting
All canals in the roots are opened and medicament is placed, presence of any additional canals will also be negotiated
Second sitting
Cleaning and shaping of all the canals called biomechanical preparation is performed, and the canals are irrigated with intracanal irrigants.
Third sitting
After thorough cleaning canals are kept ready for placement of biocompatible material. Now, biocompatible material is placed into the canals and the canals are sealed.
Is there any way to protect the root canal affected teeth?
Yes, the treated tooth/teeth is protected by the crown Placing a crown helps the tooth to be strong and capable of withstanding the forces as in the normal tooth.
Now-a-days even badly broken teeth can be saved by root canal treatment and rebuilding with metal or white fiber post n core as long as even 1-2 mm of tooth is visible. .at our mozhi dental ,the tooth proportion left after excavation of caries is assessed and a metal / a fiber post is given accordingly ,then the tooth structures is built with the support of the given post .

is root canal painfull?
As, root canals are done under local anesthesia, it is a painless procedure. Moreover; with the rotary machines available today;the procedure is so much more faster than doing the same thing with hand filing.
How many sittings are required for a root canal?
That depends on the degree of infection. However; now a days root-canal along with the crown can be completed in 2/3sitings maximum in more than 90% of the cases and often within a week’s time. Only in cases of swelling or severe pain /infection;the number of sittings may increase.
Why is a crown required after root canal treatment?
After root canal treatment the tooth tends to become weak and brittle and prone to fracture. That’s why after root canal treatment a crown is very important to protect the tooth and hold it together. Placing a crown helps the tooth to be able to withstand chewing forces and function like a normal tooth. moreover, it completes the sealing of the tooth, preventing breakage of root canal filling and reinfection.
Can a badly broken tooth also be treated with root canal treatment?
Unless the tooth is split in two or as long as atleast one mm of tooth is visible all around, the tooth can be treated by root canal treatment. In such cases the tooth is reinforced with additional structure called post and core, that acts as foundation of the tooth to withstand chewing forces.
The post and core may be of metal or white colored fiber posts with composite core build up .
When is root canal treatment suggested instead of a simple filling?
When any decay/trauma/wear of the tooth invades the innermost section consisting of nerves and blood vessels (liquid media), nothing solid (filling) can be placed over it and as the infection spreads into the roots; the blood and nerve tissues need to be taken out along with the infection. This process is termed as root canal.
What is the significance of saving the tooth by root canal and capping?
Saving the tooth helps keep the surrounding bone intact and opposing teeth in ideal position thus preserving the adjacent teeth from collateral damage.
What is the success rate of root canal treatment?
Root canal has a success rate of more than 95% thanks to the advanced materials available to perform the procedures today such as apex locators and digital x-rays to ensure accuracy; rotary instruments and fiber posts with core build up materials to improve the strength of tooth and cad-cam precision crowns bonded chemically to the tooth.
