What is Laser Dentistry?

Laser dentistry is the use of lasers to treat a number of different dental conditions. It became commercially used in clinical dental practice for procedures involving tooth tissue in 1989.Laser dentistry potentially offers a more comfortable treatment option for a number of dental procedures involving hard or soft tissue compared to drills and other non-laser tools. Laser stands for “light amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation.” The instrument creates light energy in a very narrow and focused beam. This laser light produces a reaction when it hits tissue, allowing it to remove or shape the tissue. Mozhi Dental provides you with the best dental Laser treatment.

How does laser works?

Lasers are used to deliver energy at different wavelengths on the targeted site. The laser removes only the diseased part like dental decay or tissue overgrowths, while preserving the integrity of the underlying tissue. Because there is no drill in direct contact with the tissue, there is no uncomfortable vibration when using dental lasers. Lasers are minimally invasive, making them perfect for patients with dental anxiety.

Procedures done with lasers:

  • Cosmetic Gum reshaping
  • Flap surgeries
  • Desensitizing teeth.
  • Removing dental decay and old composite fillings.
  • Root canal treatment
  • Teeth whitening
  • Frenectomy
  • Bone shaping and crown lengthening
  • Treating hypersensitivity
  • Aphthous ulcer treatment
  • Biopsy tissue removal
  • Treating obstructive sleep apnea
  • Apicoectomy
  • In oral surgical procedures (For removing teeth or placing implants)

Is laser dentistry safe?

Lasers are absolutely safe for both kids and adults. Dental lasers are extremely advanced, and different types of lasers are used for different procedures to ensure that patients stay safe and comfortable.

Benefits of laser dentistry:

Laser dentistry has two major benefits. One is that, the treatment becomes more precise and accurate for the dentist to perform with the help of lasers. The second is that it reduces the pain as well as blood loss, during the treatment process and after it, making it more comfortable and anxiety-free for the patient. The procedures with lasers are pain free and the recovery time is also faster when compared to traditional methods. Mozhi Dental is the absolute platform for the LASER assisted dental therapy.

Bleeding gums treatment at Mozhi

Dental health deals not just with the well-being of your teeth but the condition of your gums are equally important. Bleeding gums is a common symptom of gum disease. Bleeding gums are most commonly caused when plaque is not removed properly from the teeth at the gum line, resulting in inflammation of the gums. There are many reasons why bleeding gums can occur, the most common cause is Gingivitis, in which the plaque adheres to a tooth or teeth and causes the gums to swell, bleed or recede.

Laser to treat Bleeding Gums

At Mozhi Dental we use pain-free laser technology to treat gum disease. The benefits of using this technology are:

  • No need for cutting gum and use of stitches.
  • In certain cases, surgery can be avoided.
  • No bleeding
  • Heals faster
  • Gums look normal in a day or two.

Desensitisation to treat dental hypersensitivity

Desensitisation dental laser is used to treat dental hypersensitivity. Dental sensitivity is most often caused by gum recession (when the gums migrate away from the enamel of a tooth). Tooth hypersensitivity is a frequent condition that causes discomfort and sometimes severe pain. This happens when the underlying tooth roots are exposed. These roots contain small pores (tubules) which lead directly to the nerve of the tooth. As a result pain, pressure, and hot and cold stimuli can travel down the tubules triggering the nerve. Gums usually recede due to poor oral hygiene or due to incorrect ways of brushing teeth.

Desensitization of teeth

Desensitizing medications are applied by dentists and seal the exposed microscopic pores in the dentin layer of teeth that cause sensitivity.

If a patient is experiencing more than a mild sensitivity to temperature extremes or sweets, and the dentist has ruled out pulpitis (inflamed tooth pulp), tooth decay, infection, or gum disease as a cause, desensitizing medications may be used to seal the microscopic pores of exposed root surfaces.

Desensitisation dental Laser

Conventional desensitizing agents like professional pastes, toothpaste and mouthwashes aim to obliterate the exposed pores or tubules. At Mozhi Dental apart from the traditional ways, we have introduced pain-free Desensitization dental Laser treatment. Laser desensitization was introduced as an alternative efficient tool for the immediate treatment of tooth hypersensitivity. Lasers have been proven to be effective at decreasing or even eliminating dental sensitivity. It is a simple procedure which requires no anesthetic. It directs the laser energy into the sensitive areas and the laser suppresses the potential of the nerve fibers by eliminating the tubules. At our clinic we do this fast, cost effective and pain free procedure with high success rate.

Gum Contouring

If your gums appear too high or too low on your teeth and make you unhappy with your smile, your dentist may recommed for a gum contouring surgery. Also called gum reshaping or tissue sculpting. This cosmetic dental procedure can even out an uneven gum line and give you a smile you can be proud of.

Indications for Gum Contouring Procedure

  • Teeth that appear too short or too square
  • Teeth with gum recession
  • Uneven gum line
  • Excessive gum on display when smiling (so-called ‘gummy smile’)
  • Gaps between the teeth that will be closed with cosmetic dentistry
  • Teeth with gum disease

What Causes Uneven Gums?

  • Gums that cover a large portion of your teeth can make your teeth look small which may be the result of genetics or taking certain prescription drugs or a particular health problem.
  • Gums that are too high and make your teeth appear long are often caused by gum recession, a condition in which gum tissue pulls back from a tooth and exposes the tooth’s root.

Gum Contouring Procedure

  • The treatment site is numbed using a local anesthetic.
  • A diode laser is then applied to the gum area needing treatment.
  • The tissue and blood vessels that remain are sealed through laser energy thus reducing the risk of bleeding or infection.
  • The patient can leave immediately following the procedure with a new and improved smile.

Laser cavity filling

Cavity filling involves drilling of the tooth to remove the infected structure. This is associated with sensitivity, pain, and noise. At Mozhi Dental for laser and Implant dentistry, pain-free Erbium laser {Fotona} a universal laser is used which removes all infected enamel and dentin, conditions tooth structure for bonding and filling. Laser lights are gently passed through a tooth to find hidden cavities. If there is no cavity, the light will pass through the tooth material. If there is a cavity, the area will become dark, and it helps the dentist to visualise the exact size and shape of a cavity. Using a laser, they can gently remove the diseased part of the tooth, clean out the area and fill the tooth with appropriate material. Eliminates use of dental drill for cavity preparations. No noise and pain anymore with a laser.

Laser tooth removal

Normal and surgical tooth removal involves cutting soft tissue and bone. Patient has a lot of swelling pain and bleeding. At Mozhi Dental, pain-free Diode laser is used to loosen the soft tissue and Fotona laser is used to remove bone. Tooth removal is done with no pain, minimum bleeding and swelling.

Laser frenectomy:

Frenectomy is a simple surgical procedure to remove a frenum from the mouth when it is too tight or short and limits movement in the mouth. A LASER frenectomy is basically the same procedure as a traditional frenectomy, which is done with scalpels. The only difference is that the procedure uses a laser, which minimizes the risk of infection and blood loss.
